Parrot Rock, from Schnebly HIll Road

Hello, art lovers and blog readers!  This is Ellen Perantoni again, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School painters of the nineteenth century, and the finest landscape painters of the West.  (Albert Bierstadt and Thomas Moran fit magnificently into both categories....)  This nearly-incredible scene is among my favorites in my new home, Sedona AZ.  And yes, in case you were wondering, the rock formations here really are roseate-- allowing for the limitations of digital photography.  The actual painting's colors are softer and richer, and this oil painting appears much more three-dimensional when you are actually looking at it.   The colors are softer, highlights and shady spots.

My e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com and you can see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni    The recent paintings are of Sedona's red rock country, and my earlier paintings are primarily scenes of the Hudson Valley, NY, where I first learned to love the natural landscape,.

This work is on 16x20" stretched canvas and is currently drying in my studio. Subject to prior sale, it will beon exhibit April 25-27 at my Open Studio here is Sedona, as part of the SVAC Open Studios weekend.  On this weekend, 39 area studios will be open to the public in a free self-guided tour.  Free maps to the studios will be available at many area Tourist Centers and hotels, or contact me to receive a map.

This work, Parrot Rock from Schnebly Hill Road, is priced at $1700. unframed, or I will frame it as you choose.  If you cannot come to see it on Open Studios weekend  I'll be happy to show it and other paintings by appointment.  Sedona is in northern Arizona, about 100 miles north of Phoenix.

If you purchase a painting from an Internet photo you can return it for a refund if you are less than delighted.  Most people feel my art looks much better in actuality;  the details and depth are not apparent from digital photos on the Internet.

Have a great week!  I would love to hear from you.   Best, Ellen

Cathedral Rock Portrait and Sedona Open Studio April 25-27

Hello, art lovers and blog readers!  And special thanks to all of you who have followed this blog 2500 miles across the USA, from east to west, as I moved home and studio to the fabulous red rock country of Sedona AZ.   As most of you know, I paint the landscape in oil, with a luminosity and attention to detail inspired by the Hudson River School painters of the nineteenth century.  The bold silhouettes and colors of red rock country (usually set off by brilliant blue skies) , inspire me to create a new body of work.   I will open my new studio doors on the earliest examples of this body of work (as well as many works I painted in the Hudson Valley)  from April 25-27 here in Sedona.

Anyone who is interested in visiting my studio, that weekend or at another time by appointment, please let me know.  My e-mail address is still eperantoni@yahoo.com, and you can get a quick overview of paintings I currently have available on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni

The painting above shows perhaps the most world-famous view in Sedona, the front of Cathedral Rock with its "peace sign" visible.  While this is a realistic painting as are most of my paintings,  I made are subtle changes in the forms of this natural treasure  which I found particularly exciting.  The actual painting is clearer and sharper, and the colors are more subtle -- it is my constant lament that digital photos do not capture my art work as well as I would like.  Digital photos are a quick and easy way to view art -- this I will grant -- but at the expense of showing the quality.    And quality is especially precious to me.  I spend a great deal of time getting my paintings as close to perfection as I can manage.

This painting is on 18x24" stretched canvas and is currently hanging in my studio.  I have it framed in a simple wide tarnished gold frame that I think sets it off well. The price is $2500.

If you cannot come to the studio and you purchase a work of art from an internet photo you can return it for a refund within 30 days if you are less than delighted.  Most people feel my art looks much better in actuality.  You can read comments from people who purchased my art over the Internet on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni

As many of you know, Sedona AZ is  about 2 hours north of Phoenix, AZ and within several hours of points in Nev., NM, Utah and CA.  It is a fabulous year round vacation spot and late April is especially delightful here.  I will be posting more about the Open Studios weekend (you can see a total of 39 area art studios then).

Well, I am going to do some more work on the new studio.  Have a great week!

I would love to hear from you.

Best, Ellen
