From the River to the Stream

Hello, art lovers and blog readers! I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil, i n a manner inspired by the Hudson River School and the Barbizon School of the 19th century. I live and paint in the Hudson Valley of New York State, where it all began. My e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com and more of my art can be seen on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni

If you like to view art in galleries please ask me for the name of the gallery nearest you, or read my other blog posts for info on my galleries.
My studio is a pleasant 2 hour drive from the NYC metro area and 4 hours or less from other points in New England and upstate New York.

Well, I am off to enjoy this lovely summer day by painting some more.

It Was A Great Studio Tour Weekend:

Hi, this is Ellen Perantoni, a landscape painter in oil inspired by the Hudson River School and the Barbizon School. I live and paint in the riverfront/mountain town of Saugerties. It's on the west bank of the Hudson, in the foothills of the fabled Catskill Mountains. And that is where I just had a wonderful weekend. Here's a pic of a young family viewing one of my paintings on the deck (it was a fabulous day for this occasion.
I want to thank everyone who came and made the weekend such a fun occasion and such a success. The visitors from places hours away, the neighbors I met for the first time, and returning collectors who have become friends.
My studio tour and sale was part of a townwide event, the 6th annual Saugerties Artists Tour consisting of 24 artist studios open to the public throughout the Town of Saugerties.
A good time was had by all and the weather was fine except for a brief shower Saturday.
If anyone missed the tour and would like to view my work by appointment at my studio, please e-mail me at eperantoni@yahoo.com. You can see more of my work in other posts on this blog and at www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni
I also sell at fine galleries and directly from this blog. If you purchase a painting from an internet photo you can return it within 30 days for a refund.
I hope you will read more of these blog posts. And I would love to hear from any of you.
Best, Ellen

Esopus Creek Image and Artists' Studio Tour August 16-17:

Hello, art lovers and log readers! I'm Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School. I live and paint in the mid-Hudson Valley where this wonderful way of immortalizing nature began in the 1800s. The work at right is just finished, barely dry, and will be featured among others at my studio tour and sale August 16-17.
I've discussed the upcoming weekend-long studio tour in other posts on this blog, including the preceding. The trip to our Catskill-foothills community is a delightful summertime excursion from the NYC metro area, Boston, Albany and other points in the northeast.
There are many other open studios in my community that weekend also. See www.saugertiesarttour.com for details--and after August 1 you should be able to download a map to the studios that are open that weekend. There will be many prominent road signs to help you too.
The painting at right is an oil on stretched canvas, 16x20". The Esopus Creek is a famous trout stream that makes its scenic way down from the northwestern Catskills to join the Hudson River at the village of Saugerties, NY. That is Exit 20 of the New York State Thruway.
The scenery is lovely and the artists are friendly and they will be your enthusiastic guides to the region.
I hope you will also view my other paintings on other blog psots going back to March 2007. Many of these paintings are sold but others are available.
I also have works on exhibit at several fine art galleries all the time; more info on this is in my previous blog posts.
Please contact me for any info you would like at eperantoni@yahoo.com. Also view web pages www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni
If you would like to purchase a work from a blog post, you can return it within 30 days if you are not delighted.
Hope to see or hear from many of you, soon.
Have a great week!
Ellen

More about Artist's Studio Tour August 16-17, and Rosy Sky Tapestry

Hello, art collectors and blog readers again! I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School painters and Barbizon School painters of the nineteenth century. I am happy to live and paint in the mid-Hudson Valley, where I can paint many of the same scenes first immortalized by nineteenth century masters.
My e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com and more of my art can be seen on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni.
This scene, Rosy Sky Tapestry, was sold on SAT studio tour weekend, Augus 16-17.
The stretched canvas is 8x10" and in its museum quality carved wood frame it's about 14x16" on the wall. It depicts a rosy sunset over one of the spectacular bends in the Hudson River, in the fall when foliage colors add to the tapestry. I believe it has drama--will the motion of the cloud masses lead to a storm or to a clearing up as the sun sinks? I find such drama inherent in the sometimes-misty atmosphere of the Hudson Valley, fed by evaporation from this legendary river.
My studio tour was part of a town-wide event in which 24 artist studios were open to the public. The tour web site, programmed with the tour map in downloadable form, is www.saugertiesarttour.com
Tour studios will also include those of potters, sculptures, clothing designers and more. Check out the web site; I believe you'll find it attractive and readable.
I also sell my art from this blog and at several fine galleries which represent me. The Driftwood Gallery in Peekskill, NY; Berkshire Art Gallery in Great Barrington, Mass.; The Lionheart Gallery in Pound Ridge; the Arlington Gallery in Poughkeepsie, NY always have some of my art on display. Contact me for more info about these venues, or google them.
A few of my paintings are still at the Shelley K Gallery in Saugerties starting July 26 but the exhibit ends August 24. This is about 7 miles from my home studio. The Shelley K Gallery is open most days including weekdays.
If you purchase one of my works from an Internet photo, you can return it within 30 days if you are not delighted.
I hope to hear from you or see you at the studio tour!
Have a wonderful week,
best, Ellen

Cabin in the Red Mountains

Hello friends, art lovers and blog readers! I am Ellen Perantoni and I paint the landscape in oil in a manner influenced by the nineteenth century Hudson River School and also the Barbizon School. My blog is about art images, art chat and purchase info for those interested in viewing or purchasing my work. I sell at fine galleries in New York State, New England and California and contact info is given elsewhere in my blog posts. I live and work in the Hudson Valley of New York State and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com
The painting at right, because it was inspired by the view from a mountain house we stayed at in Arizona, is a bit of a departure from my usual Hudson Valley views. Only, though, in the color of the red sandstone cliffs behind the cabin, which seems exotic to easterners like myself.
We took the cabin partly for the views, and I guess you can see why. The painting is on 12x16" stretched canvas, and in fact it is still drying. But I couldn't wait to post it here. I have a museum quality simple but elegant frame for it and if I don't sell it first it will eventually be consigned to one of my galleries where the price will be in the $900. range.
If you would like to purchase it directly from me or make a studio appointment to view, please contact me. My studio is a beautiful 2-hour drive north from the NYC metro area.
If you purchase a work from an internet photo without seeing the original, you can return it within 30 days for a refund if you are not delighted.
This post will be brief, as it's a beautiful day and I want to paint some more!
Have a lovely weekend.
Ellen
