Still Moment on the Hudson, August

Hello, art lovers and blog readers!  I have not posted in a while, far too long, because I have been moving my home and studio.   The geographic scope of my landscape painting has grown considerably with my recent move to the red rock country of Sedona, but I still cherish the beauty of Hudson River Country.  This work is unusual for me in that it was executed entirely en plein air -- that is, on site, on a still August morning on the path to the Saugerties Lighthouse on the Hudson.  The clouds are still tinted pink and the texture of the reeds as they emerge from the water at low tide can be felt as well as seen.
This is Ellen Perantoni here, painter of the landscape in oil,  posting to wish you all a Happy New Year.

This painting is on  an 8x10" stretched canvas,  simply framed in a flat wide gold traditional frame.  Fremed it is $600. and unframed the canvas is $500.  I have various frame styles I can show you.

If you purchase one of my paintings from a digital photo on the Internet and you are not completely delighted with it, I will take it back and refund your money within 30 days.  Most people feel my art looks better in actuality, because my art has a depth that does not come across in dot-matrix photography.

I hope you enjoy this blog, with art images, art chat purchase and teaching info  going back to 2007.  To view older posts, click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of this web page.

Have a wonderful New Year! and keep safe and happy.  I would love to hear from you.

My Open Studio Weekend was on August 10-11, 2013

Hello friends, art lovers, collectors all!  This is Ellen Perantoni again, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School masters of the nineteenth century.   I'm revising this post as a memoir of the studio tour last month.   My studio and 35 other art/artisan studios in the township were open Saturday and Sunday, August 10-11  from 10-6.

Some of the paintings in these blog posts and on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni  were there.   Some were sold during the course of the weekend. including the sunset at left in the above photo.  The paintign on the right is still available at $1900.

A great time was had by family, new and old friends and collectors.  Thousands of people came to my town to make the rounds of the 36 artist and artisan studios.

This was my eighth year in the town-wide art tour and it was my last studio tour at this location, as I expect to relocate to Sedona AZ before next year's tour date..  After I leave the Hudson Valley I will be painting mostly Sedona area scenes.  Watch for those, and do keep reading.  I love to hear from readers!.

After the Rain, Red Rock Country

Hello, all!   This is Ellen Perantoni again, painter of the landscape in oil, in the manner of the Hudson River School.  My art is inspired by American's great master painters of the nineteenth century, and the slightly later Barbizon School of Landscape Painting..  Most of the paintings whose images I have entered in this blog since 2007 are interpretations of scenes from my native Hudson Valley.   Now I am a period of transition to Sedona in the American southwest, where changing needs have led to my also falling in love with the magnificent red rock country there.

This work shows  the expansion of my vision to include the two geographies.  Waterfalls tend to be rare and fleeing in the American southwest, but after a torrential rain you might see a cataract  like the one above,  transforming a previously dry hillside for perhaps only a few hours.   I was inspired to create this Sedona waterfall fantasy by my remembered images of Kaaterskill Falls in the upper Hudson Valley.  .

You can see more of my art at www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com

This painting is on 11 x 14" stretched canvas and is currently  in my studio  Framed as shown in a carved traditional wood frame it is about 16 x 19"  om the wall and priced $950.  I will consider a payment plan/fair offer from a sincere collector.  Or the painting will find its way to the display space of an art gallery which represents me.

I hope you enjoy reading the posts in this blog that go back to 2007.  If you wish to purchase a painting from an internet photo you can return it for a refund within 30 days if you are not delighted.  Most people think my paintings look better in actuality -- the detail shows better and they have more depth and liveliness.

Have a great week!  I would love to hear from you.

  Very best, Ellen

Path through Fields, December

Hello, art lovers and blog readers!  This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil, posing today with an admittedly unseasonal view of a field divided by a row of evergreens.  I have been working on this painting for a very long time and just got it finished to my liking. The process of creating a painting is always an adventure and sometime takes quite a while, even years.  I live and paint in the Hudson Valley region of New York State, birthplace of the Hudson River School of art in the nineteenth century;  many of my paintings are inspired by this uniquely American school of art.  I am listed in AskArt.   Winter views and night views like this one are a departure from landscape painting tradition,  and I create them according to my own vision.   You can see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com

This painting is on 12x16" stretched canvas and is currently on exhibit in my studio.  As framed in a museum quality carved wood frame it is priced $1100. and measures almost 24x20" on the wall.   I would consider a payment plan/fair offer from a sincere collector.

If you wish to see this work or my other art before purchase I will show it by apointment at my studio, which is about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area and within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA.

If you prefer to view art in a gallery, I am represesented by the Driftwood Gallery, Peekskill, NY; Green, Saugerties, NY; and Kaaterskill Fine Arts, Hunter, NY.   You can also purchase my art through Bodega Bay Heritage Gallery, Bodega Bay, CA and At the Top, Rhinebeck, NY.

If you purchase my work from an internet photo and are not delighted with it,  you can return it for refund within 30 days.  Most people like my actual paintings better than the digital photos, which do not show the depth and detail.

I have been posting on this blog since 2007.  To view more posts going back to that year, click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of this page.  I hope you enjoy the blog.  And I would love to hear from you!

   Have a great week,

The Storm is Over

Hello, art lovers and blog readers!  This is Ellen Perantoni again, with another panorama where the sky is a major, if not the principal. mover of the story.  Such views are frequent phenomena in  the Hudson Valley in summer, where passing thunderstorms have played a role in art and history since the days of the Rip Van Winkle legend.  (Rip's the fellow who hid from a thunderstorm and woke up up 20 years later).

I live and paint in today's Hudson Valley and as a painter I have too much to do to sleep when a thunderstorm creates such beauty in my world.  I want to do my best to capture it.  My art is inspired by the grand tradition of the Hudson River School of art and the beauties of the region, which are much the same today.  This blog contains my art, art chat, and purchase info.  My e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com and you can view more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni

This painting is on 20x30" stretched canvas and I have worked on it for a very long time.  It is now drying in my studio and I plan to frame it in a traditional wide gold frame that will bring it to about 28x38" on the wall.  Framed, it will be priced in the $2900.range, or $2600. unframed as it is.

If you wish to see this painting or my other art before purchase, I am happy to show it by appointment.  My studio is in the Catskill Mountain foothills (west of the Hudson River) about 2 hours' drive north of the NYC metro area.  On August 10 and 11,  I will have an open studio as part of a townwide studio tour weekend, and this painting will be there if it is not sold first.

The studio is within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA.  Contact me for more info, and directions.

My art is also on sdisplay in several galleries and art venues that represent me: in Peekskill, NY; Hunter, NY; Saugerties, NY and Rhinebeck, NY.  Specifics are given in other blog posts, or ask me for the info on the gallery nearest you. I also exhibit in temporary art shows.

If you wish to see more photos of this work, just ask.  If you purchase a work of art from photos without first seeing the painting in actuality, you can return it for refund wihin 30 days if you are not delighted.  Most people think my art looks better in actuality.

it is a beaufiul day outside and my paints and easel are calling. To read more of this blog just click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of this page for posts dating back to 2007.

I would love to hear from you.  Best, Ellen

Two Departures: Mountain Views, Night and Southwest

Hello, art lovers and blog readers!  This is painter Ellen Perantoni posting my art images again, this time with two landscape paintings that may be somewhat unexpected.   I paint the landscape in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School of the nineteenth century    The first of these two paintings is a view of the Hudson Valley's famous Kaaterskill Clove on a winter night;  i started it before the winter of 2012-13, but just finished it because of my determination to create the best art possible within my capabilities.

So here I am, posting a winter scene in the spring, but I like it and that is the important thing.  The second painting does not depict my native New York State or New England, but the magnificent red rock country typical of northern Arizona around Sedona, AZ..  You will be seeing more Sedona images on this blog in the future.

This blog goes pack to 2007, with art images, art chat and purchase info.  You can view more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com

The first painting is entitled "Winter Night Study, Kaaterskill Clove".  It is on 8x10" stretched canvas in a wide gold wood frame that brings it to about 14x16" on the wall. The second painting is entitled "Study for Red Range"  and is also 8x10" oil on canvas, about 14x16" on the wall.

Each of these paintings is $650. and they are currently crying in my studio. I will consider a fair offer/payment plan for a sincere collector.

If you would like to see my art before purchase, I will show it by appointment in my Hudson Valley studio, near NYS Thruway Exit 20 about 100 miles north of the NYC metro area.  It is also within a few hours of most points in New England, NY, NJ and eastern PA.  I am also represented by several fine art galleries in the area. Their names are given elsewhere on this blog. I hope you will want to read most posts, or contact me for info.

If you purchase a painting from an Internet digital photo and are not delighted when it arrives, you can return it for a refund within 30 days.  . Most people think the paintings look better in actuality, as they have a depth that is not fully evident in digital photos.

Summer Evening at North Lake

Hello, aficionados of landscape art and blog readers in general!  This is Ellen Perantoni again, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School and the slightly later Barbizon School. I have often visited North Lake State Park in the northern Catskill Mountains west of the Hudson, and enjoyed many firelit evenings on the shore of tranquil North Lake.   I and my family have seen dozens of beautiful sunsets there, as the the trees become silhouetted in delicious dark colors against flaming skies like the one in this painting.  I have been posting painting images, art chat and purchase info on this blog since 2007.  The apparent simplicity of this image notwithstanding, I have been working on this painting off and on for years.    My paintings tend to take a long time until I'm satisfied.  You can see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com

This painting is executed on a 14x18" stretched canvas and framed as shown in a handsome wood frame that  brings the size on the wall to about 19x23".  it is now in my studio and is priced at $1275.  I would consider a payment plan for a sincere collector.

If you would like to see my art before purchase I will be happy to show it at my studio by appointment.  the studio is about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area and within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA.  The mid Hudson Valley region where I live is a delightful place to spend a weekend.

If you purchase a painting from an Internet photo and are not delighted with it you can return it for a refund within 30 days.   If you prefer to view art at a gallery, my work is on exhibit at the Driftwood Gallery, Peekskill, NY;   Kaaterskill Fine Arts, Hunter, NY;  Green (gallery), Saugerties, NY.  My art is also on display in Rhinebeck, NY on the walls of At the Top, on Montgomery St.

I also exhibit at temporary art shows and plan two studio sale weekends  this year:  one the second weekend of August and one this spring, date TBA.     Please contact me for more info and directions or or watch this blog.

Panorama Along the Upper Hudson, and Commissioned Art:

Hello, art lovers and blog readers!  This is Ellen Perantoni, with another oil painting of a sunset view of the glorious Hudson River.  This is a view from the eastern shore, looking southwestward toward the distant Catskill Mountains on a calm evening.  I live and paint in this wonderful region and am able to to enjoy and paint such views with minimal travel.  I've been posting art images, art chat and purchase info on this blog since 2007.  You can see a quick overview of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com

This painting is drying in my studio after a great many hours of work, contemplation and refinements of the lighting and the many details (the latter do not show up very well in a digital photo).  It is on a 20x30" stretched canvas and is priced $2600.  I can frame it in a variety of appropriate frame styles or a style of your choice;  you can see some of the styles I use in other posts on this blog.

I also paint collectors' favorite views in the manner of the Hudson River School as commissioned works.  I can paint a view at the client's favorite time of day and time of year.  I can start such a painting on site if possible, or paint from photographs.  If you have a favorite view you would like painted please contact me for more info.

If you would like to see this work or others before purchase I will be happy to show it by appointment;  as I said I believe it would be better appreciated in actuality.   My studio is about a 2 hour drive north from the NYC metro area and within a few hours of most points in NY, NE, NJ and eastern PA

If you purchase a work from an Internet photo you can return it for a refund within 30 days if you are not delighted.

If you prefer to view art in galleries I also have work on display in fine art galleries which are listed elsewhere on this blog, or please contact me for the exhibit nearest you.

Farmhouse in the Valley

Hello, art lovers and blog readers!  This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil, in the manner of the Hudson River School of the nineteenth century. My paintings generally show nature in its pristine aspect but in ths case I could not resist painting this valley home as the hideaway many of us would love to have at one time or another.  The farmhouse seems to grow almost organically at the base of the hill.  You don't know whether the sky is going to clear up, storm, or become a spectacular sunset. I have been posting in this blog since 2007 with art, art chat and exhibit/purchase info.  I live and paint in this wonderful region, where much of the landscape is little changed since the 19th century. More of my art can be seen on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com
This painting is currently drying in my studio.  it is on stretched canvas sized 16x20" and I will probably frame it in a traditional walnut frame, to harmonize with the soft browns  Or I can frame it to suit the collector who purchases it.  It is priced at $1500. plus framing cost if the purchaser wants me to frame it.
When you see the actual painting you see it has almost a 3-D look, which I achieve by intensive work, not by piling the paint on thickly   Like all my art, it evokes a mood and an emotion using the realistic elements of the scene.
If you would like to see my art before purchase I will show it by appointment at my studio.  The studio is about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area,  and within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA. If you purchase a work from an Internet photo without first seeing the painting you can return it within 30 days if you are not delighted. Most people think my paintings look better than the very limited digital photos on the Net.
If you prefer to view art in galleries, a list of galleries and exhibits where my art is shown can be found in other blog posts.  I hope you will enjoy reading more of these posts;  to see more please click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of this page.
Have fun!  I would love to hear from you.  best, Ellen

View from the Park

Hello, art lovers and blog readers!  This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in the manner of the Hudson River School, that uniquely American school of art born in the nineteenth century.  I live and paint in the Hudson Valley of New York, and today I took my mind off the current February blizzard by finishing this painting of the way this beautiful valley looks at the very beginning of fall.  Some of the leaves are already showing scarlet, but the foliage as one looks west toward the mountains is still mostly green.  Lazy clouds sail across the sky.  This blog contains art chat, art images and purchase info.  My e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com and more of my art can be seen on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni

This painting is on stretched canvas 12x16".  This work has been sold to a collector, but more paintings of the Hudson Valley can be seen at my studio and at art galleries that represent me.

The fine detail and subtleties of color cannot be appreciated from this digital Internet photo. If you would like to view similar works in my studio I will be happy to show them by appointment.  The studio is in the forested foothills of the Catskill Mountains, about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area and within a few hours of most points in NY, New England, NJ or eastern PA.

If you purchase my art from an Internet photo without seeing the original you can return it within 30 days if you are not delighted.  Most collectors feel my art looks better in actuality and they love it.

My art is also in selected fine galleries such as The Driftwood Gallery, Peekskill, NY; Kaaterskill Fine Arts, Hunter, NY; Green, Saugerties, NY.   I also exhibit in periodic art shows and have one or two studio sale weekends a year.  Therre is one coming up in August 2013 and another this spring, on a date TBA.  Please contact me for further info.

I have been posting on this blog since 2007.  To read more posts click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of this page.  I hope you will enjoy it, and I would love to hear from you.  Ellen Perantoni

Cove and Streamlet, Hudson Valley

Hello.  This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil, wishing you the very best in 2013.  This painting is now drying in my studio, and I am assembling my paints and brushes to begin a new work.   I paint the Hudson Valley and New England landscape in a manner inspired by the Hudson River school paintings of the nineteenth century by such masters as Thomas Cole, Frederick Church, and Sanford Gifford.  I feel fortunate to live and paint near many of the same sites they immortalized, and have often been drawn to paint famous views myself.  This painting is my interpretation of one of the many places of quiet beauty not far west of the Hudson, in the shadow of the Catskill Mountains.  You can see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni, and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com

This work is on 12x16" stretched canvas and is priced at $900.  framed in a museum quality carved gold frame. As framed is is about 20x24" on the wall.   It is on exhibit at the Alt Gallery, Hillside Plaza, Rt. 179, Sedona AZ.  the Alt Gallery phone is 928-554-7840.

This blog goes back to 2007, and tells a story of the evolution of my art,and of many happy times in this valley, and of good times with friends and collectors.   It also shows appreciation, over time,  of the selling prices of my art.   I will consider a payment plan/fair offer for this painting from a sincere collector.

I will paint your favorite view as a commission,  at your favorite time of day and time of year. .The tawny colors in this painting evoke a hushed day in late summer in our beautiful valley.  .

If you would like to see my art before purchase I am happy to show it by appointment.  My studio is about 2 hours of the NYC metro area and within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA.   If you prefer to view art in a gallery, a few fine galleries in the Hudson Valley region represent me and have my art on exihibit all the time.  Please contact me or read more blog posts for gallery and exhibjt info

If you purchase a work from a digital photo without seeing the actual painting first, you can return the painting for refund within 30 days if you are not delighted.   .I think the painting in this post looks more sensitively detailed in actuality, and most people feel my art looks better than the flattish digital photos suitable for the Internet.

I would be happy to hear from you and answer any questions you may have.  .  Very best, Ellen  .
