Anchorage on the Hudson at Saugerties

Hello and a very happy holiday week to you art lovers and blog readers! This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School masters of the 19th century. I live and paint in the mid-Hudson Valley, where these views remain as beautiful as ever. My e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com and more of my art can be seen on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni

The painting at right is a view of the Hudson River Shoreline at Saugerties, about 100 miles north of New York City on the west side of the river. A small boat rests quietly at anchor, in the shade on a tranquil summer day. This painting is on a 11x14" stretched canvas, and is in my studio and now available for $700. (plus the cost of framing, if you wish). I do museum quality framing of my traditional paintings, mostly in wide traditional style frames. A bronzed gold would be great for this one.

If you would like to view my art in my studio, I will be happy to show it by appointment. The studio is a few minutes from NYS Thruway Exit 20, within 2 hours of the NYC metro area and a few hours from most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA.

If you purchase a painting from an Internet photo without first seeing the original, you can return it within 30 days for a refund if you are not delighted.

If you prefer to view art in galleries, please read more posts on this blog for info on the galleries that have my art on exhibit. You can contact the galleries or me for directions and contact info.

I also paint "View Portraits' (a term I have copyrighted) of clients' favorite views, in the manner of the Hudson River School. Imagine your favorite scene in a detailed realistic painting looking much like it was painted in the 19th century.

There are posts and art images in this blog going back to 2007. To read more, click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of this page. Have fun! I would love to hear from you.
Best,
Ellen

Tranquillity at Esopus Bend

Hello, all you art lovers and blog readers! I apologize for neglecting this blog for a while, but I am back, with a painting of a beautiful local trout stream, the Esopus Creek, at a memorable spot at a memorable time of day.
I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School of the nineteenth century. I live an paint in the Hudson Valley, in a studio in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains on the west wide of the river.
My e-mail address in eperantoni@yahoo.com and you can view more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni
This painting is on 11x14" canvas in a complementary 4" wide tarnished gold frame which I believe offsets the sunset glow nicely. On the wall th painting measures about 21x24". It is on exhibit at Green (Gallery) at 92 Partition St., Saugerties, NY. Green is open every day except Tuesday and Wednesday, from 10-5.
I hope you will read my other posts in the blog, going back to 2007. Many of the paintings in the blog posts have been sold but some are still available.
I show my art in my studio by appointment (about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area, within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA). I am represented by several fine art galleries.
If you purchase a painting from me from an internet photo without seeing the actual painting, you can return it for a refund within 30 days. Most people think the actual paintings look better than the photos, as digital photos use dot matrix photography which does not show the depth of my work.
Enjoy the blog, and have a great day! I would love to hear from you.
Best, Ellen

Path Through the Grazing Lands

Hello again to all you who love the Hudson River School feeling in a work of art. I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil, and that is what I love and my constant inspiration. I love landscape art with delicacy and power, mystery and crisp realism. I live and paint in the Hudson Valley of New York State and I created this blog in 2007. You can see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com
The painting at right is a path to what I know is a blissful destination. The light creates marvelous colors in the areas of brightness and shadow among the foliage at foreground.
This work is currently drying in my studio, and will be at my open studio (subject to prior sale)August 13-14 at my mid-Hudson Valley studio.
See more about the studio tour in the preceding blog post.
This work is on an 11x14" stretched canvas, and I plan to frame it in a museum quality traditional wide gold carved wood frame. Or, I will frame it as the purchaser requests. Framed, the price will be in the $900. range. I will consider a payment plan/fair offer from a sincere collector.
If you cannot make it to the open studio (about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area) please contact me for an appointment at another time.
If you purchase my art from an Internet photo without seeing the actual painting you can return it within 30 days for a refund if you are less than delighted. Most people feel my work has a depth that does not show up in dot-matrix digital photography.
I hope you will enjoy reading other blog posts. For more, click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of the page.
Have a great week! Summer is so lovely here, and summer painting so delightful, that I can't stay at the computer for long...
Very best, Ellen

Valley View from the Niche, and My Open Studio August 13-14, 2011:

Hello everyone --art lovers, blog readers, Hudson River School aficionados and all! This is Ellen Perantoni again with a 20x24" painting I just completed, using a recent smaller work as a study. This shows a view of a meandering river from one of the dramatic escarpments with which geological history has blessed this beautiful region.
The curved rocks and lacy foliage of early summer frame a view that invites contemplation as well as intuitions (I think) of a spiritual world beyond the visible.
This is what I strive for in my art-- some artists may use abstract forms to suggest the material, but I prefer to realistically portray the beauty of our world in a manner that hints at even greater beauty that is unseen but can only be felt with the heart.
My blog posts here go back to 2007, and I hope you will continue to browse them and partake of the creative and spiritual journey they have entailed.
You can see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is epreantoni@yahoo.com
This painting is on 20x24" stretched canvas. I have found an extraordinary antique gold leaf frame for it. The frame is leafed in 22k or 24k gold (I'm not sure which) and I am delighted with the way it brings out the golden tones of the painting. The frame is 4-1/2" wide, bringing the framed painting to almost 29x33" on the wall.
I am getting ready for the town wide Saugerties Art Tour August 13-14, 10-6 both Saturday and Sunday. August is a fabulous time to visit the Hudson Valley. And if you come that weekend you can visit the studios of 41 artists and artisans who work in the riverfront township of Saugerties. My studio is in a forest in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains between Saugerties and Woodstock, and other studios in other parts of the township overlook the Hudson River.
Free maps to the studios are available, in color and easy to follow. You can drop in at my studio or any of the 41 without an appointment and browse for as short or long a time as you wish. I will be showing some of the paintings on this blog, as well as other paintings, studies and signed prints that have never been exhibited anywhere.
Please contact me for a free tour map or log onto www.saugertiesarttour.com for more info. If you can't make it to the tour weekend but would like to view my art by appointment another time, please let me know.
The tour studios are about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area and within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA.
If you buy my art from an Internet photo without seeing the original, you can return it within 30 days for a refund if you are not delighted. It is hard to remember anyone wanting to return a painting.
If you prefer to view art in galleries read more blog posts for info on the fine galleries that represent me.
Enjoy the week--summer is in full swing in the Hudson Valley and I am having great fun painting and basking in the sun. Best, Ellen

Glory Above Olana

Hello, all! This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School--posting today one of my recent paintings of one of the loveliest Hudson Valley views--the view of the river from the back lawns of Olana (Frederick Church's famous home). I never tire of this view and and feel privileged to live and paint in the mid-Hudson Valley, where I can paint great places like this en plein air ( on site) as well as in my studio. More of my art can be seen on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com
This painting is on 8x10" stretched canvas in a gorgeous traditional wide gold frame as shown. It sold to a collector shortly after I posted it here.
I have other paintings in my studio which I will show by appointment. My studio is in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area, and within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA.
If you purchase a painting from an Internet photo without seeing the original you can return it for a refund within 30 days if you are not delighted.
If you prefer to view art in galleries, I am represented by these fine galleries: The Driftwood Gallery, Peekskill, NY; Berkshire Art Gallery, Great Barrington, NY; Green (Gallery), Saugerties, NY; Kaaterskill Fine Arts, Hunter, NY, Bodega Bay Heritage Gallery, Bodega Bay, CA,, and I also do temporary shows from time to time.

Niche in the Escarpment

Happy Memorial Day Weekend, friends and art lovers! This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil. It's been a while since I posted but I have been busy --now that the rainy part of May is hopefully over, I am especially energized in painting the beautiful Hudson Valley in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School. At right is my latest finished work. This painting has recently been sold.
My e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com and you can see more of my art at www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni
This work is on 8x10" stretched canvas, still drying in the studio. I will come back to this blog post later as it is another glorious day here, and I am inspired to paint outdoors today.
Have a great weekend, Ellen

The Long Horizontal View: Catskills and Hudson Valley

Hello all! This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School and the slightly later Barbizon School of the nineteenth century. To me this lovingly detailed sensitive capturing of the landscape "as is" is satisfying in a way not other art can match. I want, as the expression goes, to "have it all": the feathery quality of lacy foliage, the softness of clouds, the knife edges of the Catskill bluestone rock formations.
I have more art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com
The two paintings pictured at right are both 12x24" oils on canvas. I am growing more and more fond of this horizontal format, so right for landscape and so reminiscent of some of the most appealing 19th century Hudson River School art.
The first painting is a perspective on the high peaks of the northern Catskills of Greene County (home of Thomas Cole) from one high mountain peak, looking across to other high peaks and the tawny valleys between.
The second painting shows the Hudson Valley from a high field overlooking the upper river from the east, showing the river gently cupped in the rolling landscape.
Each of these works is priced (as shown, without framing) at $1650. I also do museum quality framing in wide traditional gold frames (as in my previous blog post) or simpler frames.
I would be happy to show you the works in my studio by appointment; some of the works in this blog are on consignment in art galleries and some have been sold, but the two in this post are available. If you purchase form an Internet photo and you are not delighted with the work, you may return it for a full refund within 30 days.
It is a wonderful sunny Sunday here in the Hudson Valley and I am ready to paint some more. Have a great day! I would love to hear from you,. Best, Ellen

Sunset on Still Water

Hello, all! This is Ellen Perantoni again, painter of the landscape in oil, inspired by the immortal art of the nineteenth-century masters of the Hudson River School of Art. This was the first uniquely American school of painting and as far as I am concerned it can't be beat. Or maybe the gentle yet dramatic scenery and skies of the region have had me under their spell for years. The blog is about my art, art chat, history and happenings, and purchase info. You can see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com
The painting at right is another in the "long horizontal format" that I find elegant and have become increasingly fond of. You can feel the stillness in your soul of the gilded water that seems to have stilled its very ripplings in hushed air.
It is framed in a museum quality heavy hardwood frame, a work of art in itself. The painting comes to about 21x33" on the wall and the frame is almost 3" deep. The stretched canvas is 12x24". As framed it is priced $1950. and we are presently enjoying it in our home. But I love so many and most will be sold, so I will consider a payment plan/fair offer from a sincere collector.
If you would like to see this, or any other, work of my art before purchase you can make an appointment for a studio visit. I think you will enjoy seeing the paintings even more in actuality...they have a depth that digital dot-matrix photography does not convey here.
If you purchase from an internet photo without seeing the original you can return it for a refund within 30 days if you are not delighted.
I also exhibit in several fine art galleries in the Hudson Valley region, New England and California. More info on these is in other posts in the blog, or please e-mail me for the gallery nearest you.
I will be teaching a few small indoor/outdoor painting workshops in my region this summer and early fall. There is more about these in other blog posts. To browse previous posts please click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of this page.
Have a great weekend,
best, Ellen

Sunset After Thundershower

Hello, art loving friends and blog readers! This is my latest work in the "wide format" shape I've become fond of. I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the 19th century Hudson River School painters. I live and paint here in the Hudson Valley, where this kind of beauty is still blessedly commonplace...though that is is too modest a term for such spectacular beauty. The very changeability of the weather and the skies here is exciting. More of my paintings can be seen on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com
This work is still drying in my studio. Now that winter is on the wane (that's what the calendar says, anyway) I look forward to these mountains being clothed in lush foliage as in this view.
This painting is oil on stretched canvas, 12x24". I plan to frame it in a wide traditional gold frame that will bring its size on the wall to about 21x33". When framed it will be priced in the $1900. range; If a buyer wishes to frame it him/herself the price will be $1700. (I use museum quality framing, usually heavy carved hardwood frames).
Or it may be consigned to one of the fine art galleries that represent me, such as The Driftwood Gallery, Peekskill; Berkshire Art Gallery, Great Barrington, and Green, Saugerties, NY. And I also do temporary art exhibits and sell from my studio by appointment.
I have art work posted on this blog dating back to 2007. Some of those works are sold but some are available. Each blog entry about an available painting states whether it is in a gallery (and if so, which gallery) or in my studio.
If you purchase a work from me from an Internet photo without seeing the actual painting, you can return it within 30 days if you are not delighted. Most people feel the paintings look better than the photos, because digital dot-matrix photography does not convey the depth of my style.
To read more blog posts please click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of the page. Have a great weekend. I would love to hear from you,.

2011 Summer and Fall Landscape Workshops Forming:

Hello, landscape art lovers and blog readers! This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil, with another post which I hope you'll enjoy reading on a winter's morning (or any time that suits). I paint the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School and I'm listed in AskArt. My e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com and you an see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni
I have met many lovely people though this blog, people who have purchased my art, visited an open studio event or just sent friendly communications about painting. Also painters and beginners who would like to enter upon the absorbing study of this style of painting (which I feel is often sorely neglected).
When I paint, I want it all!
Meaning I am not satisfied with "washes" suggesting nature's miracles; I want to see and "feel" the laciness of leaves, the tumble of water in streams, the slow majestic progression of featherlight towers of cloud across the sky. Such tribute to the fineness of nature's textures is what I aim for in my art and what I work to teach, when I teach others.
I live and paint in the mid-Hudson Valley of New York State, where the original Hudson River School master painters worked in the mid 1800s. I paint where Cole and Church painted, and in little known beauty spots I have delightfully discovered for myself in the 25 plus years I have lived in this region.
This is about 2 hrs. north of the NYC metro area and within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA.
I'm now taking registrations for three 3-day workshops in 2011: June 3-5, July 8-10 and October 7-9 (my fall color workshop!).
I am limiting each workshop to 4 participants ; I do not aim to make a financial killing but to give close personal attention to each student. I feel I in turn benefit from working with others.
Each workshop is $325. If you are interested please e-mail me at eperantoni@yahoo.com and I will e-mail you a registration form.
I would also be delighted to answer your questions. For those who need lodging info I can refer you to google sites where you can find convenient lodgings.
The painting image at right is detail from one of my typical works. This painting was sold a while ago to one of the first collectors who saw it.
I invite you to browse this blog further and see more posts: "Older Posts" at the bottom of this page" going back to 2007. On www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni you can also see comments from people I have come to know and have done business with.
Have a great day! And those of you sharing a northeast winter with me, keep warm!
Very best, Ellen

If you purchase a work from an Internet photo without seeing the original and you are not delighted with it, you can return it for a refund within 30 days. Most people feel my art loks better in actuality.
This work may be consigned to one of the art galleries that represent me and exhibit my work on an ongoing basis, such as The Driftwood Gallery in Peekskill, NY; Berkshire Art Gallery in Great Barrington, Mass; Green (Gallery) Saugerties, NY.
