Kaaterskill Clove, Late September

Happy holiday season art lovers and blog readers!  This is Ellen Perantoni again,  getting accustomed to changes in this blog posting procedure. Okay, I think I've got it!  I am a painter of the landscape in oil, in a manner inspired by the Hudson  River School of the nineteenth century and its immortal masters such as Thomas Cole, Frederick Church and Sanford Gifford. I lived a short distance away from such blissful vistas as the one shown in this painting for many years..  You can see more of my art in the rest of this blog and on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni.  My e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com

This painting is on 8x10" stretched canvas, and I am no selecting a frame for it.  You can see some of my frame styles in more posts on this blog (which I do hope you will want to read.)  This painting is priced at $500. framed in a quality carved gold wood frame.  It is on exhibit at the Alt Gallery, Hillside Plaza, Rt. 179, Sedona AZ.  The Alt gallery phone is 928-554-7840.  Watch this blog for the image of another painting I am working on, showing the Kaaterskill Clove (which is Dutch for a ravine or valley)  in winter.  The dramatic seasonal variations here make the region a particular exciting place to paint.  I will get back to this blog post later, am immersed in holiday prep as well as my usual painting activities.    Best, Ellen

Late Afteroon at the Quarry

Hello, art lovers and blog readers! I guess you are getting ready for the holiday season and I am too. The leaves have fallen from the trees here in the Hudson Valley, but one can always remember the soft afternoons of summer, and views such as this glimpse of afternoon sun on a still quarry pond. A friend of my family is fortunate enough to own this beautiful place, and as a landscape painter I was lucky enough to be able to capture this view. The fine detail of the foliage and highlights on the water cannot be fully appreciated from these digital Internet photos. I am Ellen Perantoni, and I often paint the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School and the slightly later Barbizon School of the 1800s. This blog consists of my art images, art chat, and licensing and purchase info for those who are interested. You can see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com. I would be happy to hear from you. This painting is on 8x16" stretched canvas in a museum quality carved hardwood frame. On the wall it measures almost 14x22". It is now hanging in my studio and is priced at $900. I would consider a payment plan/fair offer from a sincere collector.  My art is also on display in fine galleries; contact me for the gallery nearest you.  Should you purchase my art from an Internet photo without seeing the original, you can return it for refund within 30 days if you are not delighted. References are available from collectors who have purchased my work over the Internet. Most people find my work looks better in actuality because digital photos do not show the depth and detail of my technique. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Best, Ellen .

December Night's Dream

Hello, art lovers and blog readers! Are you ready for winter? This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil with a strong influence of the Hudson River School painters of the nineteenth century. And a strong dose of my own vision, as is apparent in this winter night's overview. I have been posting my painting images and art chat on this blog since 2007. Sometimes I haven't started painting a winter's beauty until the season is well underway, which means I don't finish the winter paintings until spring. This year, however, I wanted to have a few winter scenes done by the time the flurries arrive. This one is now drying in my studio. You can see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com This painting is executed on 16x20" stretched canvas. As framed in a simple traditional style wood frame,it is priced at $1900. I would consider a payment plan/fair offer from a sincere collector. If you purchase a work of my art from an Internet photo and are less than delighted you can return it for a refund within 30 days. Though I don't enjoy the cold I find the visual beauty of a pristine winter landscape undeniable. This is how a bend in the upper river might look as seen from a hovering helicopter (or on the wings of a dream) at night. It is a view to set the heart at peace.  I am thankful this area was mostly spared by the recent Hurricane Sandy, and my heart goes out to the many who were in its path of destruction and are recovering. More of my art can be seen at fine galleries that represent me.. Have a wonderful week! I would love to hear from you. Best, Ellen

Annandale, on the Hudson

Hello, fellow art aficionados! On the eastern side of the Hudson River, about 100 miles north of New York City, is the peaceful hamlet of Annandale and the Bard College campus. This academic community enjoys many glimpses of the river that have been the subject of lovingly crafted Hudson River School paintings since the 1800s. I am Ellen Perantoni and I often paint the landscape in the manner of the Hudson River School;   it was with enthusiasm that I captured this westward-looking view at sunset. More of my paintings can bee seen in other posts on this blog and on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni My e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com This oil painting is on stretched canvas 9x12" and in its museum quality carved hardwood frame it measures about 17x20" on the wall. It is now in my studio and the purchase price is $750. I would consider a payment plan/fair offer from a sincere collector.  There are several fine art galleries that exhibit my art also;  contact me for the nearest gallery. If you purchase a painting from an internet photo without seeing the actual painting, you can return it within 30 days if you are not delighted. Most people feel my actual paintings look better than the digital photos because of their considerable depth and detail. Posts on this blog go back to 2007. Pines in Moonlight, a Group of Paintings

Hello, all. This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School. I recently completed and framed a group of small paintings that celebrate the purity and freshness of a pine forest in the evening, with moonlight shining over all. At right are photos of two of them that are now sold (I am revising this post on 11/22/13).  If you purchase my art through the Internet without first seeing the actual paintings, you can return them within 30 days if you are not delighted. Most people feel my art looks better in actuality for it has a lot of detail and glazing that cannot be appreciated from a digital photo. This blog goes back to 2007. If you would like to see more posts going back to that year, click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of this page. Have a great week. I would love to hear from you! Best, Ellen

Panorama after the Flood

Hi! This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School and the slightly later Barbizon School of the 19th century. To me there is no match for these art classics, and the loving detail with which they captured the fresh beauty of the Hudson Valley of new York State and the surrounding region. I have unbounded admiration for Frederick E. Church, Thomas Cole, George Inness and the other masters of this uniquely American school of art. I live and paint in the mid Hudson Valley about 90 miles north of New York City, and am lucky enough to be able to paint many of the same beautiful places. Thankfully, there is a great deal that hasn't changed much. When need be, I can flick away unwanted intrusions on the landscape's beauty with my brush. And I feel fortunate. You can see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@ yahoo.com The painting at right is a large panorama, 24" high by 48" wide. It shows how the sunset might look in the wake of a drenching rainstorm that has turned a low-lying pasture into a pond. A solitary horse and her foal are in repose standing in the shallow mirrorlike water. (The foliage, animals and other features that are silhouetted here are blends of rich dark greens and browns.) This work is now drying in my studio. It is priced at $4800.. I can frame it to the taste of the purchaser. I would consider a respectful offer from a sincere collector. If you would like to see this work and some of my other art before purchase I will be happy to show it at my studio by appointment. The studio is about 2 hours from the NYC metro area and within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA. If you purchase a work of art from an internet photo without seeing the actual work, you can return it within 30 days if you are not delighted. Most people feel my art looks much better in actuality. If you prefer to view art in a gallery setting, I have paintings on display at fine galleries such as The Driftwood Gallery, Peekskill, NY; Kaaterskill Fine Arts, Hunter, NY; and Green, Saugerties, NY. In Rhinebeck, NY my friends and collectors Ginny and Charles have several of my paintings on display at their place of business, At The Top. For addresses and contact info on these exhibits, and periodic temporary art shows where I exhibit, please e-mail me at eperantoni@yahoo.com Well, I think I will now paint some more. It is early October and the fall foliage is delightful today in the crisp October air of the valley. I hope you enjoy this blog including the Older Posts you can see by clicking "Older Posts" at the bottom of this page. I would love to hear from you. Best, Ellen

Limted Edition Signed Prints on Canvas

Hello, all! This is Ellen Perantoni again, painter of the landscape in the style of the Hudson River School. I live and paint in Hudson River School country, in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains about 100 miles north of New York City. And what a beautiful place it is! The image at right is an especially dramatic view of the same Kaaterskill Falls that attracted Hudson River School master Thomas Cole and other nineteen century giants. This is the way this magical place looks in early fall when the glorious gold color of the autumn leaves adds to the beauty. I did the original oil painting about 3 years ago and a collector snapped it up right away. (This is good reason to contact me right away if you see an art work here that interests you. .) USA copyright law entitles me to use the image for other things, such as signed and numbered Limited Edition prints. Printing technology has made it possible to reproduce the image on canvas, with a result that looks very much like the actual oil painting. Please note the fine detail in the second photo. This framed print is part of a Limited Edition of 50 prints on 11x14" hand stretched canvas. Framed as you see here, it is about 14 x 17" on the wall. This particular print is number 14 of this edition, and I have signed and numbered it on front and back. Unlike the original painting which sold for a four figure price, this print as framed in a high quality wood frame is $225. This print is currently in my studio. You can see the actual print and others by appointment in my studio if you like. If you order this print or any of my works from an internet photo without first seeing the original you can return it within 30 days if you are not delighted, in the same condition in which you purchased it. You can contact me at eperantoni@yahoo.com and see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni Many of my painting images can be reproduced as prints on canvas, so ask if there is another one you particularly like. I also have Limited Edition prints on paper. I hope you enjoy reading this blog and have time to read more posts; I stated posting here in 2007. To see more posts click on Older Posts at the bottom of this page. Have a great weekend! I would love to hear from you. Ellen

Fall Reflections on the Lower Stream

Hello, art lovers and blog readers! Fall is approaching in this neck of the woods, and with it the magnificent fall foliage colors the Hudson Valley and New England are known for. I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in the manner of the Hudson River School. This painting I am posting today is an example of the beauty that surrounds my Hudson Valley home in the fall; I see this view whenever I drive over a certain bridge on the way to do my grocery shopping. What a lift I get! This blog is about my artwork, with art chat and purchase info. Also for chat about the Hudson River School of art in general and its masters that have gone before. The locales painted by giants Frederick Church and Thomas Cole and others are not far from where I live and paint, and they are still beautiful. More of my art can be seen on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com The painting at right is entitled "Fall Reflections on the Lower Stream" and it is an 18x24" oil on stretched canvas. I have framed it in a bronzed gold museum quality frame and the framed size is about 30x36" on the wall.  This painting has been sold to a collector.  I also have art on exhibit in several fine galleries in the area. My studio is about 2 hours from the NYC metro area and my art is on exhibit in other Hudson Valley and Catskill Mountain locations. Contact me for specifics.  I hope you will read more of these blog posts. To see older posts going back to 2007 click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of this page. Have a great week! Ellen

Rosy Sky, Seen from Olana

Hello friends and art lovers! I hope you've been enjoying the summer as much as I have, painting the beautiful views of the Hudson Valley that I love. I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School master painters of the nineteenth century. I live and paint in the heart of the Hudson Valley, and am grateful that so much of the beauty of this region ahs changed little since the 1800s. And if there is a factory or mall or even a telephone pole to dispel the magic of nature in a scene I want to paint, I can simply dismiss it with a few strokes of the brush. I love the natural world as it is and yet I often change it subtly, to create the most interesting paintings I can. More of my art can be seen at www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com This work is a sunset view of the land and sky seen from Frederick E. Church's home Olana on the east bank of the Hudson River. It has been sold to a collector.  The sweep of river and sky from this favorite vantage point is a frequent source of delight and inspiration for me. You can view similar paintings by appointment at my studio, which is about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area and a few hours from most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA. My art is also on display in fine galleries such as Green, Saugerties, NY; Kaaterskill Fine Arts, Hunter, NY; The Driftwood Gallery, Peekskill, NY. Please contact me or read more of these blog posts for information on these art galleries. I also paint "View Portraits" (a term I have copyrighted) of clients' most beloved places. I can paint your favorite view at your favorite time of day and time of year. We are having a near-perfect August day today with only a few clouds in the sky to add interest to a landscape painting. You can see I love to paint dramatic skies! I hope you enjoy reading my blog posts as far back as 2007. Have fun! I would be happy to hear from you. Best, Ellen

Lower Hudson with Sailboats, and Upcoming Rhinebeck Exhibit

Hello, all! This is Ellen Perantoni with another landscape image: a timeless scene of the Hudson River of New York State, a view with elements both intimate and distant. I paint the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School masters of the nineteenth century. I have the pleasure of living and working in the Hudson Valley, which still affords such unspoiled vistas as this one. This blog has art chat, painting images, browsing and purchase info. This blog goes back to 2007 and by now is something of a retrospective. I hope you enjoy it. I love to hear any comments and questions: my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com The painting at right is entitled Lower Hudson with Sailboats. It is oil on stretched canvas 8x16"; as framed in its traditional wide gold frame it is about 16x32" on the wall. It is priced $900. and is currently in my studio. If it does not sell before July 14, it will be in my exhibit in At the Top in Rhinebeck, NY, across the Hudson on the east side of the river. If you wish to view this painting in my studio, I show my art by appointment. My studio is in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains, about 3 hours north of the NYC metro area. it is also within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA. Cloud Arabesques, Seen from Olana

Hello, friends and art lovers! I am Ellen Perantoni, and I paint the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School of the 1800s. I especially love the skies of master painter Frederick E. Church, and the lyrical countryside of George Inness. I live and paint in the mid Hudson Valley about 100 miles north of New York City, and I feel privileged to be able to paint many of the same wonderful places that inspired the pantheon of master artists of that day. Much of the original beauty of this region has been preserved and has changed little. As a painter I can flick away such interferences as telephone poles and industrial parks with my paintbrush, in a manner photo editing still cannot cannot duplicate. More of my art can be seen on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com These blog posts go back to 2007 and comrpise a recent history of my life and art. I hope you enjoy them. The painting at right is entitled "Cloud Arabesques, Seen from Olana". It is a view of the Hudson Valley from the back lawn of Church's Moorish inspired home Olana. Church thought his view the most beautiful in the world, and I am drawn to paint it again and again in its various atmospheric moods. This painting is drying in my studio. it is 11x14" and is $900. framed it in a traditional style gold frame. If you'd like to view this work or any of the paintings at my studio I show my art by appointment. If you prefer to view fine art in galleries, I am represented by fine galleries from Peekskill, NY up the Hudson Valley and across the Catskill Mountains up to Hunter, NY. Please contact me or browse this blog further for gallery info and hours. Starting July 14 I will exhibit at At the Top in Rhinebeck, NY. On August 11-12 my studio will be open to the public as part of a town wide studio tour featuring 40 artist studios. To be on the mailing list for this studio tour and receive a studio map please contact me. If you purchase a work of art from my internet photos without seeing the original, you can return it within 30 days if you are not delighted. Most people feel my art has more liveliness and depth than the digital photos. To view more blog posts and more paintings click on "Older Posts" at the bottom of this page. Small Paintings

Hello again, friends and art lovers! This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil, posting a group of recent small paintings. I live and paint in the Hudson Valley of New York State and my art is inspired mostly by the Hudson River School greats of the nineteenth century. Some of the scenes painted by masters Thomas Cole and Frederick E. Church are not far from my studio, and starting at this time of year I sometimes set forth with paint and canvas to paint where they did. You can see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is epreantoni@yahoo.com I have framed these three small works in a style that is popular with many of my collectors. They look good hung in small groups. The stretched canvases are 5x7 inches, and as framed each comes to about 11-1/2 x 13-1/2 inches on the wall. I have other framing choices for anyone who prefers different framing. The first two of these paintings are sold; the third, as framed, is $325.  If you would like you can visit my studio by appointment to view my art before purchase. My studio is about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area, and within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA. If you purchase a painting from an Internet photo without first seeing the actual painting, you can return it within 30 days if you are not delighted. Most people feel my art looks better in actuality. If you prefer to view art in galleries my art is on display in galleries in Peekskill, NY (The Driftwood Gallery); Hunter, NY (Kaaterskill Fine Arts) and Saugerties, NY (Green). The third painting is on exhibit in Rhinebeck, NY at present; contact me for details.   On August 10-11, 2013, Saturday and Sunday,  I will participate in a townwide open studio weekend, along with 30+ other local artists. I meet new friends and collectors every year at the annual open studio weekend. Please contact me for more info about either event. Well, I am going to go paint. Yesterday I visited Thomas Cole House in Catskill, NY and as usual am very pumped up from viewing really great Hudson River School art. And it is a beautiful spring day; musn't waste it! Have fun. I would love to hear from you. Ellen

Intimation of Paradise

Hello, friends and art lovers! I am Ellen Perantoni, and I paint the landscape in oil, inspired by the great nineteenth century painters of the Hudson River School. This is one of my most recent paintings, and for this work a more contemporary term "atmospheric realism" suggests itself. This is a realistic painting but it is simple, because it is mostly about the sky. You can see more of my art on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com This stretched canvas is 8x16", and in its simple traditional frame it measures about 10x18" on the wall. It has been sold to a collector.  If you like you can visit my studio by appointment to view other paintings I have here. My studio is in Sedona AZ/. If you purchase a painting from me from an Internet photo, you can return it within 30 days if you are not delighted. Most people feel my paintings have more depth and detail than is shown in digital dot-matrix photos on the Internet. I hope you will read more of my blog posts. At the Quiet Pool

This peaceful day across from a filed where two cattle have strayed seems like a memory from from another time but, delightfully, it isn't. I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil inspired by the Hudson River School, and this painting is drying in my studio. I paint the same Hudson Valley that was first immortalized by masters Thomas Cole, Sanford Gifford, and Frederick E. Church. Though the cities and villages have grown, most of the Hudson Valley remains the same today. In my world, pastoral scenes like this are commonplace. More of my art can be seen on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni and my e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com

This painting is on 14x18" stretched canvas. I plan to frame it in a traditional wide gold frame, also reminiscent of the 19th century. In this photo, the right side of the painting appears lighter than the left, but this is not the case in the actual painting. This work can be purchased unframed from my studio for $1450. and I will frame it to your taste. I would consider a payment plan or a fair offer from a sincere collector.

This work may be consigned to one of the fine art galleries that represent me: Kaaterskill Fine Arts, Hunter, NY; Green (Gallery), Saugerties, NY; The Driftwood Gallery, Peekskill, NY. I also show my art at my studio by appointment; the studio is in the mid-Hudson Valley about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area, and within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA.

If you purchase a painting from an Internet photo without first seeing the painting you can return it within 30 days if you are not delighted.

Spring weather has arrived early in the Hudson Valley this year, and lush green foliage like this may not be far in the future. I paint every season, but am looking forward to this spring.

I hope you will read more of this blog. These posts and illustrations go back to 2007. To read more posts go to the bottom of this page and click on "Older Posts".
Have fun. I would love to hear from you.

Stream and Distance, The Catskills

Hello, blog readers and art appreciators! The unusual "brown winter" of 2011-12 is progressing towards February in the Hudson Valley, with no snow on the ground and little foliage on the trees. But my memories hark back to our magnificent fall, when the forests were aglow with gold, like the foliage in this painting. I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School. I am strongly influenced by the works of such 19th century masters as Thomas Cole and Frederick Church. This painting is an upstream view of the western Catskill Mountains at the height of the fall foliage season.
This blog contains posts with images of my art, art chat, and purchase info. My e-mail address is eperantoni@yahoo.com and more of my art can be seen on www.artwanted.com/EllenPerantoni Or google Ellen Perantoni for about 9 pages of further info and history.
This oil painting on stretched canvas is 16x20". It is currently in my studio. Unframed, the price is $1650. I do museum quality framing, in traditional wide gold frames or mahogany or walnut, according to the collector's choice. I will consider a payment plan or a fair offer from a sincere collector.
If you purchase an art work from an Internet photo without seeing the original, you can return the painting within 30 days if you are not delighted. Most people think the actual paintings look better than the digital photos.
For those who prefer viewing art in galleries, I am represented by several fine galleries in the Hudson Valley region and California. More info on those are in other blog posts going back to 2007, so I hope you will read further.
I also show my art by appointment at my studio, about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area. It is also within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA.
If you have questions or comments I would love to hear from you.
