Small Paintings

Hello again, friends and art lovers! This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil, posting a group of recent small paintings. I live and paint in the Hudson Valley of New York State and my art is inspired mostly by the Hudson River School greats of the nineteenth century. Some of the scenes painted by masters Thomas Cole and Frederick E. Church are not far from my studio, and starting at this time of year I sometimes set forth with paint and canvas to paint where they did. They look good hung in small groups. The stretched canvases are 5x7 inches, and as framed each comes to about 11-1/2 x 13-1/2 inches on the wall. I have other framing choices for anyone who prefers different framing. The first two of these paintings are sold; the third, as framed, is $325.  If you would like you can visit my studio by appointment to view my art before purchase. My studio is about 2 hours north of the NYC metro area, and within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA. Intimation of Paradise

Hello, friends and art lovers! I am Ellen Perantoni, and I paint the landscape in oil, inspired by the great nineteenth century painters of the Hudson River School. This is one of my most recent paintings, and for this work a more contemporary term "atmospheric realism" suggests itself. This is a realistic painting but it is simple, because it is mostly about the sky. At the Quiet Pool

This peaceful day across from a filed where two cattle have strayed seems like a memory from from another time but, delightfully, it isn't. I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil inspired by the Hudson River School, and this painting is drying in my studio. I paint the same Hudson Valley that was first immortalized by masters Thomas Cole, Sanford Gifford, and Frederick E. Church. Though the cities and villages have grown, most of the Hudson Valley remains the same today. In my world, pastoral scenes like this are commonplace. This painting is on 14x18" stretched canvas. I plan to frame it in a traditional wide gold frame, also reminiscent of the 19th century. In this photo, the right side of the painting appears lighter than the left, but this is not the case in the actual painting. This work can be purchased unframed from my studio for $1450. and I will frame it to your taste. I would consider a payment plan or a fair offer from a sincere collector.

This work may be consigned to one of the fine art galleries that represent me: Kaaterskill Fine Arts, Hunter, NY; Green (Gallery), Saugerties, NY; The Driftwood Gallery, Peekskill, NY. Spring weather has arrived early in the Hudson Valley this year, and lush green foliage like this may not be far in the future. I paint every season, but am looking forward to this spring.

Looking Up Platte Clove, and View Portraits:

Hello, art lovers and blog readers! Spring is starting here in the Hudson Valley of New York State. And it is welcomed! I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School, those magnificent 19th century tributes to nature. I live and paint here in the region immortalized by the works of Thomas Cole, Frederick E. Church and others. And I am happy to say that much of the scenery here is still as gorgeous as it was then. This is what I especially love to paint.

As you can see in this painting, I strive to paint each leaf and highlight of these views. I have many favorite view spots in this beautiful region, and am often discovering others.
I can also paint your favorite view in a View Portrait (a term I have copyrighted) at your favorite time of day and time of year. I can paint it en plein air (outdoors, on site) or from photos if you wish.
The painting shown here is 24x36" on stretched canvas, and I have framed it in a museum quality, wide traditional gold frame that brings the size to over 32x44" on the wall. As framed, this work is $3700.

Stream and Distance, The Catskills

Hello, blog readers and art appreciators! The unusual "brown winter" of 2011-12 is progressing towards February in the Hudson Valley, with no snow on the ground and little foliage on the trees. But my memories hark back to our magnificent fall, when the forests were aglow with gold, like the foliage in this painting. I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School. I am strongly influenced by the works of such 19th century masters as Thomas Cole and Frederick Church. This painting is an upstream view of the western Catskill Mountains at the height of the fall foliage season.

This oil painting on stretched canvas is 16x20". It is currently in my studio. Unframed, the price is $1650.
