Annandale, on the Hudson

Hello, fellow art aficionados! On the eastern side of the Hudson River, about 100 miles north of New York City, is the peaceful hamlet of Annandale and the Bard College campus. This academic community enjoys many glimpses of the river that have been the subject of lovingly crafted Hudson River School paintings since the 1800s. I am Ellen Perantoni and I often paint the landscape in the manner of the Hudson River School;   it was with enthusiasm that I captured this westward-looking view at sunset. Pines in Moonlight, a Group of Paintings

Hello, all. This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School. I recently completed and framed a group of small paintings that celebrate the purity and freshness of a pine forest in the evening, with moonlight shining over all. At right are photos of two of them that are now sold (I am revising this post on 11/22/13).  If you purchase my art through the Internet without first seeing the actual paintings, you can return them within 30 days if you are not delighted. Panorama after the Flood

Hi! This is Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School and the slightly later Barbizon School of the 19th century. To me there is no match for these art classics, and the loving detail with which they captured the fresh beauty of the Hudson Valley of new York State and the surrounding region. I have unbounded admiration for Frederick E. Church, Thomas Cole, George Inness and the other masters of this uniquely American school of art. I live and paint in the mid Hudson Valley about 90 miles north of New York City, and am lucky enough to be able to paint many of the same beautiful places. Thankfully, there is a great deal that hasn't changed much. When need be, I can flick away unwanted intrusions on the landscape's beauty with my brush. And I feel fortunate. It shows how the sunset might look in the wake of a drenching rainstorm that has turned a low-lying pasture into a pond. A solitary horse and her foal are in repose standing in the shallow mirrorlike water. (The foliage, animals and other features that are silhouetted here are blends of rich dark greens and browns.) This work is now drying in my studio.It is priced at $4800.. I can frame it to the taste of the purchaser. I would consider a respectful offer from a sincere collector. If you would like to see this work and some of my other art before purchase I will be happy to show it at my studio by appointment. The studio is about 2 hours from the NYC metro area and within a few hours of most points in New England, NJ and eastern PA. Limted Edition Signed Prints on Canvas

Hello, all! This is Ellen Perantoni again, painter of the landscape in the style of the Hudson River School. I live and paint in Hudson River School country, in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains about 100 miles north of New York City. And what a beautiful place it is! The image at right is an especially dramatic view of the same Kaaterskill Falls that attracted Hudson River School master Thomas Cole and other nineteen century giants. This is the way this magical place looks in early fall when the glorious gold color of the autumn leaves adds to the beauty. I did the original oil painting about 3 years ago and a collector snapped it up right away. (This is good reason to contact me right away if you see an art work here that interests you. .) USA copyright law entitles me to use the image for other things, such as signed and numbered Limited Edition prints. Printing technology has made it possible to reproduce the image on canvas, with a result that looks very much like the actual oil painting. Please note the fine detail in the second photo. This framed print is part of a Limited Edition of 50 prints on 11x14" hand stretched canvas. Framed as you see here, it is about 14 x 17" on the wall. This particular print is number 14 of this edition, and I have signed and numbered it on front and back. Unlike the original painting which sold for a four figure price, this print as framed in a high quality wood frame is $225. This print is currently in my studio. Fall Reflections on the Lower Stream

Hello, art lovers and blog readers! Fall is approaching in this neck of the woods, and with it the magnificent fall foliage colors the Hudson Valley and New England are known for. I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in oil in the manner of the Hudson River School. This painting I am posting today is an example of the beauty that surrounds my Hudson Valley home in the fall; I see this view whenever I drive over a certain bridge on the way to do my grocery shopping. What a lift I get! This blog is about my artwork, with art chat and purchase info. Also for chat about the Hudson River School of art in general and its masters that have gone before. The locales painted by giants Frederick Church and Thomas Cole and others are not far from where I live and paint, and they are still beautiful. Rosy Sky, Seen from Olana

Hello friends and art lovers! I hope you've been enjoying the summer as much as I have, painting the beautiful views of the Hudson Valley that I love. I am Ellen Perantoni, painter of the landscape in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School master painters of the nineteenth century. I live and paint in the heart of the Hudson Valley, and am grateful that so much of the beauty of this region ahs changed little since the 1800s. And if there is a factory or mall or even a telephone pole to dispel the magic of nature in a scene I want to paint, I can simply dismiss it with a few strokes of the brush. I love the natural world as it is and yet I often change it subtly, to create the most interesting paintings I can. Lower Hudson with Sailboats, and Upcoming Rhinebeck Exhibit

Hello, all! This is Ellen Perantoni with another landscape image: a timeless scene of the Hudson River of New York State, a view with elements both intimate and distant. I paint the landscape in oil in a manner inspired by the Hudson River School masters of the nineteenth century. I have the pleasure of living and working in the Hudson Valley, which still affords such unspoiled vistas as this one. This blog has art chat, painting images, browsing and purchase info.
